NHS Health Checks
As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing some health conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease or Type 2 diabetes.
If you are aged 40-74 and have not already been diagnosed with one of these conditions you can have a free NHS Health Check every five years to assess whether you are at Low, Medium or High risk.
Taking an NHS Health Check can help you reduce your risk and make sure that you stay healthy.
How it works
The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your overall health. It can tell you whether you are at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and stroke. The higher your risk score, the more likely you are to develop one of these illnesses.
Finding out you have a risk factor for a health condition can be really helpful because you can take action to improve your health. For example, if you find out your blood pressure is too high, you can make lifestyle changes to lower it, such as stopping smoking, eating a healthier diet or exercising more. You will be given lifestyle advice based on your results.
If you are over 65, you will also be told the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for. Contact your GP Practice. They can help check your eligibility and book you an appointment. If you are not currently registered with a GP, use NHS search to find a GP today.
